VN-Index drops sharply (VN-Index -3.58%)

- VN-Index opened flat, reflecting investors’ wait-and-see attitude as the index had fallen for three consecutive sessions up to the previous day amid concerns over persistently high commercial bank interest rates.
- The index quickly turned negative, led by large-cap stocks, centered on Vingroup-related stocks. A widespread sell-off ensued, and selling accelerated further after breaching the psychological support level of 1,700 points.
- The index dropped for the fourth consecutive session, bringing its decline to 10.3% in July. While the macroeconomic environment and second-quarter earnings remain relatively solid, domestic retail investor sentiment has deteriorated.
- Market breadth ended with 75 advancers, 245 decliners, and 45 unchanged stocks.
- Market liquidity reached VND 23.4 trillion, roughly unchanged from the previous trading session. VN-Index closed at 1,668.53 points (-3.58%).

- PNJ (-6.95%) hit its daily lower limit again today, weighed down by concerns over liquidity tightness following changes to its payment methods for diamond buybacks, as well as reports of share sales by major shareholders.
- ACB (-1.97%) posted net interest income of approximately VND 14.8 trillion (up 13.3% YoY) and a consolidated pre-tax profit of VND 10.7 trillion in the first half of 2026, driven by solid performance in its retail and SME segments.
- Foreign investors were strong net sellers, offloading VND 1,952.1 billion. SSI (-2.37%), VIC (-6.99%), and VCB (-3.88%) faced the heaviest net foreign selling, while VNM (-1.20%) saw the largest net foreign buying.
