VN-Index edges down despite a strong intraday recovery (VN-Index -0.24%)

    • The VN-Index opened sharply lower after the long holiday, with broad selling pressure across Banking, Securities, Real estate, Retail, and other major sectors.
    • During the morning session, the index briefly fell toward the 1,800-point level before rebounding strongly. VIC (+3.60%) reversed from an earlier decline and, together with gains in Oil & Gas and Fertilizer stocks, helped the VN-Index narrow its loss to 10.51 points and close the morning at 1,821.61 points.
    • In the afternoon session, the recovery continued, led primarily by large-cap support, particularly VIC (+3.60%). However, broad market sentiment remained weak, with most stocks still trading in negative territory despite the index recovering substantially from its intraday low.
    • Market breadth ended with 93 advancers, 236 decliners, and 49 unchanged stocks.
    • Market liquidity increased slightly by around 0.6% from the previous session to VND 17.46 trillion. The VN-Index closed at 1,827.72 points (-0.24%).

VN30 underperformed the broad market (VN30 -1.08%)

    • The basket recorded 6 gainers, 24 decliners, and no unchanged stocks.
    • SSB (+6.73%) hit the ceiling price, while VIC (+3.60%) was another notable gainer.
    • Conversely, TCB (-3.89%) and TCX (-3.43%) were among the steepest decliners.

Sectors and stocks daily highlights

    • Kafi Securities (KAI) will begin trading 750 million shares on UPCoM on September 9, 2026, at a reference price of VND 15,000/share, implying an initial market capitalization of approximately VND 11.25 trillion. The company also plans to pursue a HOSE listing within 2026.
    • CII (-1.02%) increased its exposure to PC1 (-2.17%), with the CII shareholder group raising its combined ownership to 12.79% after CII Invest purchased an additional 1 million shares. CII directly holds 5.59%, while CII Invest owns 7.20%.
    • Foreign investors recorded net selling of VND 1,520.44 billion. VCB (-2.33%), VPB (-3.06%), and TCB (-3.89%) faced the strongest net foreign selling pressure, while VIX (-0.35%), DPM (+5.91%), VPI (+1.03%), and SSB (+6.73%) attracted notable net foreign buying interest.
